Oasis Horticulture has made the move to green energy by installing over 200kw of solar panels in the past two years at both the NSW and VIC sites. This move has decreased reliance on grid power by approximately 30%.
Oasis Horticulture has on-site water storage of over 20 megalitres in major dams at both sites to service production requirements. Up to 80% of the water from these dams is recycled, treated, and reused. This creates a closed-loop water cycle, minimising usage of mains water supply.
Current transitioning from halogen lighting to LED across all buildings located on the Springwood and Cranbourne sites will deliver an estimated 70% reduction in energy usage from the grid for lighting. The change over is projected to result in a saving of over 76 tonnes of CO2 annually… the equivalent of powering 8 homes, or 16 cars off the road. New lighting will improve the working environments for our staff as well as increase safety.
Since 2019 we have increased our efforts to work towards a better future by using only recycle-friendly materials in our punnets, trays and labels. This means less landfill and a healthier environment for future generations. We have also consciously reduced the amount of plastics used through label shape efficiencies, eliminated P6 plastics from our business to move to P5 and increased use of recycled plastics.
With an increasing focus on the reduction on our carbon footprint, both Springwood and Cranbourne sites now use electric vehicles for over 80% of plant product movement around sites.
Oasis has increased its use of sustainably and ethically sourced wood fibre substrate, which is produced from Victorian softwood chips. This strengthens our best practice in sustainable production methods and supports local industries that also harvest from sustainably grown forests. Using a sustainable wood fibre substrate material which delivers similar performance to traditional blended substrates blended substrates mitigates the need to use calcium nitrates required to remove harmful sodium and chloride within the composting process which also delivers improved environmental outcomes.
We greatly appreciate your interest in Oasis Horticulture and our mission for a greener, more sustainable future for all.
