Growing a range of chillies ensures you always have a fresh supply on hand, and with their compact growing size, you can grow them in on the smallest balcony or patio.

Do you like your chillies sweet and mild or hot and spicy? Why not grow a selection of all heat levels for any chilli occasion. They will happily take pride of place growing in pots in any size garden, providing bright, tasty fruit all season long.

Position:
Plant your chilli plants in a full sun position in a pot, container or hanging basket that is at least 30cm in diameter and that has good drainage. When planting in pots use a fresh supply of an Australian Standards potting mix for best results.

Height/Spacing:
Chilli plants generally grow 20-60cm in height and perform best if spaced to only 1 plant per pot. Tall growing chillies may benefit from staking to support the abundance of fruit they will produce.

Fertilising:
Fertilise regularly using a liquid plant food that's designed for flowering and fruiting plants.

Watering:
Chilli's like well draining soil. Mulching with straw will prevent soil from drying out, and suppress weeds.

Harvesting:
Expect fruit to be ready to pick 10-12 weeks after planting your seedlings. Pick fruit when ripened to your desired colour to encourage more flowers and fruit to appear.

Enjoy!:
More versatile than you might think, chillies may be used in stir fries, jams, salads, or (if you are brave enough), eaten straight off the vine!
